Theology in Country Music: Addressing the Sex Scandals of Today. Pt 4. RUN!!!!!
I have been writing recently about the sex scandals that have been in the news lately. I have been sharing with men in particularly on staying sexually pure in our marriages. Some of the things I have recommended are:
- Be where you are supposed be both physically and spiritually. Do not be in places you should not be, and do not let your mind go to places it should not.
- Have an accountability partner. Have someone strong enough in your friendship who can tell you no. Many men fall to sexual temptation when they are so alone and powerful that no one can contradict them.
- Put up road blocks to prevent you from falling such as an internet filter for your computer. Look at the ring on your finger. Do not be like the man in the video and put your ring in your pocket. In other words, do not have your pockets full of gold. And finally, if all else fails.
- RUN!!!!!!!!!!!.
The Bible tells us in Genesis 39: 6-15
6-7Joseph was a strikingly handsome man. As time went on, his master’s wife became infatuated with Joseph and one day said, “Sleep with me.”
8-9He wouldn’t do it. He said to his master’s wife, “Look, with me here, my master doesn’t give a second thought to anything that goes on here—he’s put me in charge of everything he owns. He treats me as an equal. The only thing he hasn’t turned over to me is you. You’re his wife, after all! How could I violate his trust and sin against God?”
10She pestered him day after day after day, but he stood his ground. He refused to go to bed with her.
11-15 On one of these days he came to the house to do his work and none of the household servants happened to be there. She grabbed him by his cloak, saying, “Sleep with me!” He left his coat in her hand and ran out of the house. When she realized that he had left his coat in her hand and run outside, she called to her house servants: “Look—this Hebrew shows up and before you know it he’s trying to seduce us. He tried to make love to me but I yelled as loud as I could. With all my yelling and screaming, he left his coat beside me here and ran outside.”
Corinthians 6:18 (New King James Version)
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
When all else fails run, get yourself out of that situation. One cannot play with fire and not get burned eventually. The same with sexual sin. It eventually will burn you. It has burned many a man already. Just ask Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, Bishop Earle Paulk, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the list continues.
Next post will conclude this series. We will be discussing the consequences of sexual sin.
until next time
put on your spiritual sneakers and RUN!!
