Theology in Country Music: Addressing the Latest Men’s Sex Scandals of Today. Pt 2

Are You Where You Are Supposed to Be?

A key to sexual purity if you are man is to be where you are supposed to be?  Let me elaborate by sharing the scripture from 2 Samuel 11: 1-5

David, Bathsheba, and Uriah

1 It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.
2 Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. 3 So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” 4 Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house. 5 And the woman conceived; so she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”

David was not where he was supposed to be.  Instead of leading his troops into battle like was the custom, he instead chose to stay home.  Instead of roughing it with the army, he was lusting on the roof.  Instead of fighting his enemies, he was feeding his lusts.  Instead of attacking the enemy, he was committing adultery with a woman.

I know what you maybe asking.  If I am supposed to be at work, and I am at work, couldn’t I get in sexual trouble there too?  The answer is yes, but is still because you are where you are not supposed to be.  I going to take it to the Jesus standard.

Jesus said:

Matthew 5:28 (New King James Version)

28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

If you are physically where you are supposed to be, but mentally in another location,  then you might make yourself vulnerable to temptation and falling to sexual temptation.  Do you look at pornography?  Do you lust after women?  Do you  visit illicit chat rooms?  If so, then you are not spiritually where we should be. This was David’s issue too.  He looked upon Bathsheba with lust and his mind took over.  As a result he acted on the illicit desire.

The song by Conway Twitty. “Linda On My Mind” is a song about a man laying next to his wife, but his mind is on another women.  He will eventually leave his wife to be with the other woman.  Like David, the singer is mentally somewhere else.  This will result in the destruction of his marriage.

Until next time.

be where you should be. Physically and mentally.  This will help in preventing you falling to sexual temptation.
