Theology in Country Music: Addressing the Latest Men Scandals
In the ’80’s their were a lot of sex scandals inside the church of God. Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Bakker were both caught cheating and were exposed in front of the entire country. The ’90’s brought us the Bill Clinton sex scandal, and this new millennium we see political leaders falling left and right because of sex scandals. Arnold Schwarzenegger had an illicit affair with his housekeeper about ten years ago and fathered a child with a the woman. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former head of the IMF, has been arrested on rape charges.
Sex scandals are not new. They have been around since biblical times. The great King David himself was caught having an affair with another women. David saw Bathsheba bathing and sent for her. He had sex with her and he soon found out that Bathsheba was pregnant with his child. I guess he was the Arnold Schwarzenegger of the Bible. To compound matters, David tried to get Bathsheba’s husband Uriah sleep with her so he would think it was Uriah’s child. Uriah being a loyal soldier in David’s army refused to lay with his wife while his fellow soldiers were still in battle. David eventually had Uriah murdered. Your can read the story in II Samuel 11:1-27.
These next few posts will be written more for men. It will deal with reasons that men fall into sexual sin, and ways to prevent them. I hope you will take this advice to heart since the fabric of our society is being destroyed by sexual sin. No man, including myself, is immune from falling. We can, however, put up roadblocks that will help keep us on the right path. In the words of the Chris Young song: “I want to be a good man. A do like I should man. I want to be the kind of man the mirror likes to see. I want to be a strong man. An admit that I was wrong man. God I’m asking you to come change me into the man I wanna be.”
until next time.
