A good caddy is like the Holy Spirit

A good caddy is like the Holy Spirit.  The word of God tells us in John 14:15=18:

¹⁵ “If you love Me, keep^[d] My commandments. ¹⁶ And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— ¹⁷ the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. ¹⁸ I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

A good caddy can be a great asset to someone who is visiting a golf course.  The caddy knows the lay of the land so to speak.  The caddy knows where the trouble is on the golf course, and he can help you avoid the trouble.  He can advise you on club selection, distance, wind, alignment and other variables necessary to help you succeed on the golf course.

Likewise the Holy Spirit is our helper, counselor, and advocate here on earth.  The Holy Spirit can guide us on earth.  The Holy Spirit can warn us of trouble, and can advise us which course of action to take to have the abundant life Christ promised us.  Unlike the earthly caddy, the Spirit dwells inside of us.  The caddy’s voice is external, but the Spirit’s voice is internal.  He speaks to our spirit and gives our spiritual man the guidance we need.  The Holy Spirit can do this in several ways.  He can speak to us using God’s word the Bible, through others , through dreams, through that still small voice in our hearts (There are others, I do not want to limit the Spirit of God).  When he does this it speaks to our heart, and we then confirm it through his word.

When a golfer has a question or concern he asks the advice of the caddy.  The next time you as a child of God have a concern, a question, or problem, go and seek the advice of the Holy Spirit, and he will gladly council and guide us.

This will be the first of three post regarding the Holy Spirit.  The caddy is the golfer’s best resource, thus the Holy Spirit should be our best resource.
