Theology In Country Music: Life’s Railway to Heaven
The song for this week is “Life’s Railway to Heaven” as sung by Russ Taff. It is a song about the typical Christian life. It is a song about keeping our minds focused on Christ and keeping our eyes on the prize of heaven and making our journey safely home. It is also a song that tells us that as we go through life there will times of trials, testing, and temptation. During those times we must be focused on Christ to make it through.
The word of God tells us in Matthew 7: 24-27 (My Paraphrase) that in times of testing, temptation, and trial we must be wise builders and have our house built on the foundation of Christ. If we do not build on the foundation of Christ then we are like the man who built his house on sand, and when the rains came it washed his house away. If our house is on Christ’s firm foundation than when the storms of life come our house will stand. This song says the same thing. If you trust in Christ, you will make it. Just because your life is in the tunnel, don’t throw away your ticket. “Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.”. If you do then you will experience the promises of Revelation 2:26-28
Here’s the reward I have for every conqueror, everyone who keeps at it, refusing to give up: You’ll rule the nations, your Shepherd-King rule as firm as an iron staff, their resistance fragile as clay pots. This was the gift my Father gave me; I pass it along to you—and with it, the Morning Star!
and the promise of Revelation 3:5
5“Conquerors will march in the victory parade, their names indelible in the Book of Life. I’ll lead them up and present them by name to my Father and his Angels.
O conquering child of Christ, stay on life’s railway and you will never falter and you will not fail.
See you on the train
